The hamlet of Croton Falls looks a bit like an old Western town: It offers a small Post Office, a circa 1860 bank, a firehouse, a gourmet caterer and deli, a stationery shop, a church, an excellent wine shop/liquor store and a tasteful Dunkin' Donuts housed in the old train station, a small grocery/deli, an excellent hairdressing salon, an auto repair shop, a taxi service, and a hardware store/lumber yard. The town of Somers - made famous as the home of Hachaliah Bailey (founder of the American circus) - features 18th century houses, a Vermont postcard old church, the landmark circa 1820 Elephant hotel (now Town offices), a Gristedes supermarket, a Post Office, two pharmacies, four banks, two flower shops, a gourmet pizzeria, a café, a bakery, a seafood shop, a fruit and vegetable stand, a Chinese restaurant overlooking a pond, an Italian Deli, a video rental store, a hairdresser, an animal hospital, a travel agency, and specialty shops. There are a variety of dental and medical offices and a small hospital nearby.

Camp Kiwi, a popular, upscale facility used by Westchester parents for Day Care, After School, and Summer Camp services, is within easy walking distance of the house just up Ernhofer Drive.
